Bird ID Question

I saw a little tiny bird the size of a humming bird 2 feet from me. It had long legs and a short to medium beak. All of a sudden it made this crazy throaty sound. I've never seen this bird or heard it's call. I was wondering if someone might have any ideas. I cant find it anywhere. Saw it in SE wisconsin. Thanks for any help.

Hmmmmm. Did you get any pictures? What was the date of the sighting? And the what size exactly, 3 inches or 4 inches or even smaller? I have some ideas, but I need more info to confirm.

The sighting was 9-1-2019. I think it was 3 inches as I thought it was a hummingbird until I saw the long legs and the beak was too short. It was brown with a beige breast. I didn't have a camera so sorry no pictures. I'm guessing a fledgling of some sort, but I'm new to this. I say that because it didn't seem scared of me. It was so cute, until it made that throaty screechy sound.

Heidi and Harper.

Perhaps check the wrens? this reads perhaps like a house wren or even a Carolina wren by the vocalization.

Good birding,

meg
