One entry of sighting data for general location and sub-location
I do not want to enter sighting data twice. While I would like to give you more specific location data, I also want my data to show in my general location.
ie. Lake Jacomo list and list for a specific area within the Lake Jacomo (Marina area or Missouri Town area ect.) How can I do this without entering data twice. I would give more sub-areas if I could do this and make only one entry. Otherwise I will tend to enter data for more general area. I could drive 10 or more miles around the lake and stop at many different places with different habitats around the Park area all within a straight line distance of 3 or 4 miles, often less, of each other. Most birders want to keep a general location list for large areas known by one name. Wildlife areas, state parks, county parks ect. It would be nice to be able to link sub-areas to a general location smaller then a city, county, or state and enter data once for sub-locations.
If this can be done, without loosing data for either location, I would like to know how.
Please address this issue. I believe it would help to generate more precise location data. No I do not use a cell phone or use a tracking application.

Mike, your checklists for your smaller sub-areas can be combined into a larger 'patch' which may suit your purposes: https://help.ebird.org/customer/en/portal/articles/1006845-yard-and-patch-guidelines
Hope this helps!

Mike and Krista,
Indeed a good question with probably not an easy answer. We prefer not to use Hotspots (can we assume Lake Jacomo is a hotspot) and create lots of individual sites for eBird (what you may call sub locations).
There must be some way to copy the location data so as not to repeat data entry unnecessarily, but we have not yet found a simple path to do so. We think that this will eventually occur in future iterations of eBird and suggest that you try contact eBird techies and gurus directly through the Contact button (tiny font, far upper right corner this page). the techies rarely access this public forum, but we get good response with the direct contact.
