Could this have been a Black necked stilt?

Do black neck stilts ever forage by swimming in water and diving completely under? If not, what bird has same body shape (I couldn’t see legs)and black and white coloring that swims and dives? Longer neck than duck, shorter and
D more slender than goose, Black on head and down neck and back with a white underside It was swimming alone in marsh adjacent to Great Salt Lake in Utah.
Thank you

Hi Elizabeth,

Maybe a Western or Clark's Grebe?

Thank you. Grebe makes much more sense to me. Now to see whether i can determine which of the two from my distant photos
