When will Hawaii species be added to my ABA checklist area total?

Since the ABA voted to add Hawaii, I have been waiting to see when my Kauai data will be added to my ABA total. So far, the species I saw in Kauai have not yet appeared, and yet the explore data section shows that the same species are missing from my ABA total... but I have already seen them. So, does this just indicate a delay in updating the database, or do I have to do something to make the Kauai birds "count" for my ABA total? Thanks, Matthew

Hi Matthew,
Unfortunately the ABA area does not include Hawaii. Although the AOU area does. Sorry for this disappointment. Hope that helps.

In response to Josiah's response above, I've had the same question as Matthew? Earlier this year the ABA did vote to include Hawaii ! When will our Hawaii birds be added to our ABA total. Will eBird be updating the database, or do I have to do something to make the Hawaii birds "count" for my ABA total?

Thank you

If eBird doesn't consider Hawaii part of the ABA yet (which I understand has been voted in and WILL be admitted to the ABA) why does eBird tell me my Kauai species are "needed for my ABA area??? Matthew

Take a look at the latest ABA checklist (May 2018) here:

Hawaiian birds are now included.

What is the hold up here? I have a couple species listed on ABA's checklist for Hawaii and they don't show up on the ABA list in my eBird?

Is this going to be resolved any time soon?

All valid questions. Many people are still wondering when this will happen. If the answer is 5 years from now, so be it. At least we will know and people won't need to continue to try and get a response.
