if I make a typing error (e.g., E instead of W), how can I correct that error without changing anyth

I simply want to make changes to location data, without actually moving the point or doing anything else to list. I can't seem to open up only the location information without having to back to a map. The process described in your Help section does not do what I need to do.

Diane, Try this
Go to "My eBird"
Click "Manage My Locations"
That will bring up a list of your locations.
Select the location you want to rename for editing

A page with a map on it should come up.
Near the upper left hand corner is the colored marker for the spot with the name of the location to the right of that. Right under the colored marker you should see the word "Rename".

The circle for "Rename" will probably already be checked so all you have to do is retype the name in the space between the words "Enter the new name" at the left end and the "Rename" button at the right end.

If you want to change the spelling in the name of a personal location:

Go to my eBird
Click "Manage My Locations"
In the "Search" box, enter the name of the location and pick the one you want from whatever comes up.

There is a re-name tool on the next page that comes up that allows you to re-type the name without changing anything else.

If what you want to do is to change the location of the checklist, load the checklist and click "Edit location". That will give you all the usual choices for how to select a location.

I can't find the rename tool for correcting typos in the location name.

Diane

If the location is not owned by you, meaning that it is either an “eBird hotspot” or it is a “Shared location”, then you’ll need to email me to fix it. Please contact me offline at bls42@cornell.edu.

Thanks

Brian
