question about ebird review committee of trissur/kerala
Please see my ebird checklist submission ID# S41392507 dated 29.12.2017 from the location (10.464, 76.151), Thrissur, IN-KL. Here is the link to the checklist http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S41392507 for easy reference. In the checklist, I have entered one count of Pallid Harrier (Circus macrourus) with photographs. But to my surprise, I received an email from Mr. Sreekumar E R via eBird (firstname.lastname@example.org) stating that the entry is Montagu's Harrier and not Pallid calling my attention to the black tipped primaries & less prominent barring on primaries. Depending on the enlightened wisdom of the reviewer, I corrected the entry to Montagu's Harrier. After a few days of effecting the correction, I received another email from Mr. Vivek Chandran via eBird (email@example.com) claiming as an volunteer regional data reviewer for eBird and stated that the corrected entry of Montagu's Harrier looks more like a juvenile Pallid Harrier as the underside is an unstreaked yellowish-buff and that Montagu's juvenile has more streaked underparts.
This is quite unbecoming on the part of the eBird that its reviewers are sending rampant mails challenging the submitter's checklist without properly identifying the bird first. These two mails would show that there is a lack of co-ordination among its regional reviewers. Such action of the reviewers may result in doubting the accuracy of the eBird. Of late, aberrations from the ideologies of eBird are noticed when the checklists are reviewed by such inexperienced reviewers. I am submitting the photographs of the bird in question and would request to kindly take up the matter with the high level body of eBird, so that remedial measures may be taken to maintain the discipline and authenticity of eBird.
With sincere regards
