Please help...questions...Common Raven...giant, huge, stick pile 'igloo' beneath their roost

My brother sent me pictures of a Raven's roost in New Mexico. The roost itself is on a slight rock outcropping with a small covered 'cave'. Beneath the roost is this HUGE pile of sticks. Five feet high by about 3 feet in diameter. The guy that placed the camera to take the pictures burned the wood pile 30 years ago. And it's slowly been replaced. By the ravens? For what purpose? This roost has been in constant use for a known 50 years, and probably much longer. We're enthralled with learning more, if anyone knows. Email me and I'll send the pictures.
