Is it going to be possible soon to separate birds seen from only heard?
Most of us rely on hearing to help in identification and I know I always prefer to see birds over just hearing them. There are instances where the safety of the bird or just the difficulty of people seeing them is high. We had a Black Rail up here a few years back that no one saw, but in order to report it on ebird, it would up our life list simply because it was reported. I was told that maybe in the future we would have the ability to note if the species was heard only. Is this still going to be possible soon?

It’s certainly something we’d like to do to improve your ability to manage your lists. It’s not on the near term development list, but it is on the list for longer term improvements to the My eBird functionality.

It would be very helpful to have a way to indicate that I heard a bird but did not see it. I often bird at the edge of the forest and cannot readily see the birds, but can ID them by their song. Just putting in my vote.

Thanks for the quick reply. It's good to know this could be coming to everyone at some point in the future.
