Can I print out a checklist for the field?

Many of our eBird contributors probably already know about Avibase, a website maintained by Denis Lepage that offers a wealth of information about bird taxonomy, and checklists from around the world in a variety of formats. Avibase has recently launched a new feature that will prove useful to eBird participants--printable field checklists in eBird format. This tool provides a printable PDF version of any checklist available on Avibase, which can be used during your field excursions or your travels anywhere around the world. The checklists also provide space to record date and effort information for 10 locations, facilitating eBird data entry when you get back to the computer. Read more.

To download a checklist, you can go to the checklist page ( on Avibase, make sure you select eBird as the taxonomic authority, and click on the region of your choice (there are nearly 800 to pick from). You can further customize your list by adding names in another language for instance. Then, simply look for the button that says “PDF Version” at the top of the list.
We expect that this tool will continue to improve over time, and we will be happy to hear suggestions about how to make it even more useful for eBirders.
