It is not currently possible to change your username (or login name) in eBird. Your username this is the name listed in parentheses at the top of any eBird page, where it says "Hello Ludlow Griscom (lgriscom)". This is viewable only to you and never seen by the public, so as long as you have it written down somewhere safe so that you don't forget it, it is not important if there is a typo in the username. We do hope to create a way to change it in the near future.
Your password can be changed by going to the eBird login screen and clicking the link "Forgot Password?" below the large blue "Sign In" button. This will send an email to the email address on your My eBird Preferences page; please be sure your email correct! Also, please make sure to be careful with your password and not use the same password that you use for very important websites, like your email, bank account etc. If you are having problems retrieving your username, please email us.
Some folks have created multiple eBird accounts accidentally. If you ask for a username reminder, you may get several usernames back and you should log in to each to make sure your data are all moved to a single account. Please see this story for advice on resolving duplicate accounts.
