All About: eBird Top 100

The eBird Top 100 showcases your list totals within the eBird community, alongside the totals from other eBirders for any county, state, province, or country in the world. You can view Top 100 totals by year or lifetime for species or complete checklists, so even if you aren't traveling to chase down every new species you can still take pride by pushing your checklist totals higher! Check out some fun Top 100 regions like WorldIndiaABA Area, or 2017 in Hidalgo County, Texas.

It is also very important to understand that this is meant to be a fun and personal style of output and thus is quite different from other data visualizations in eBird. The list totals here are not vetted by our data quality system. eBird does not do any "policing" of individual's lists, so the totals seen here are simply the precise totals from an individual's account. Every other public output in eBird contains only data that has been subject to the review process. If this isn't your cup of tea, you may opt of Top 100 under preferences.

The Top 100 is intended for single observers; if you maintain a group account, please opt out of Top 100 and follow these guidelines. The Top 100 is intended to summarize data reported from site-specific locations; if you upload your life list, country list, state list, or county list, be sure to do so in a way that will not impact Top 100. For example, uploading your 683 species life list from a specific location within your home county would place you at the top of the Top 100 for your county; such lists should be uploaded separately by county, state, or country following these guidelines

The Top 100 is updated nightly (see the "last updated" time at the top right) so your totals may not be current immediately after entering a new bird.

The percentages shown are calculated from the overall list of validated sightings in eBird for the Top 100 region and time period that you're viewing. On rare occasions, it is possible to have a list of greater than 100% if your list has some birds that are still awaiting validation and few other eBirders have entered data for the region.

Have fun!
